Queenie van de Zandt is well known for her incredible versatility as a performer, having worked extensively in musical theatre, plays, cabaret, on television and in film, and as a recording artist, comedienne and writer. She is considered one of the country best theatre performers.

Wildbrumby unveils its ‘Spirit of Christmas’ gin
Limited-edition Black Label gin brings a festive twist to the distiller’s award-winning range of spirits
Wildbrumby, the Snowy Mountains Distillery, has released a limited-edition Black Label gin which has been crafted just for Christmas.
The Black Label has been created from the traditional botanicals and organically home-grown raspberries used in its Rubus Patch gin.
To this award-winning spirit, we’ve added twists of festive fruit, elderflower and citrus notes to recreate the sublime spirit of Christmas.
These have been carefully balanced with juniper and native botanicals, such as the mountain pepper berry that grows wild in the Snowy Mountains.
“The subtle addition of traditional Christmas fruit to our award-winning Rubus Patch is a celebration of the things we love best as we spend time with friends and family,” says Wildbrumby founder, Brad Spalding.
“Add pristine Snowy Mountains water and organic citrus fruit from the family orchard, and you have a gin that truly embodies the spirit of an Australian Christmas.”
The Black Label gin will be available until Christmas, or until stock runs out. Each bottle is elegantly packaged and includes a festive cocktail recipe (attached).

Golden gong for Peach Nectar schnapps
Wildbrumby wins gold medal at Australian Distilled Spirits Awards
Wildbrumby Distillery has been awarded ‘Gold’ for its Peach Nectar schnapps in the Schnapps Liqueur category at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards.
Wildbrumby has been in the spirits business for well over a decade. It was one of the first craft distilleries established in Australia, and introduced schnapps – that quintessential tipple from the European Alps – to Australian snow sport enthusiasts.
Distiller Brad Spalding has developed many varieties of schnapps which have proven extremely popular among visitors to the Snowy region. Peach Nectar Schnapps is one of its classic range and has a rich succulent flavour.
Run by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, the Australian Distilled Spirits Award is the only national awards program recognising excellence in Australian distilled spirits and liqueurs.
“We are honoured that one of our classic schnapps products has received a gold medal in this prestigious category,” says Wildbrumby founder, Brad Spalding.
“Schnapps is not a traditionally Australian spirit, but we have developed a unique twist on European schnapps, that is especially tailored to local palates.”
This latest award follows recent successes with its Classic, Rubus Patch and Stallion gin, which have all claimed ‘Gold’ at international spirits competitions in Melbourne and Asia.
The distillery was also named as a leading food and drink innovator in 2017 for its schnapps range in the book Celebrating Australian Food and Agribusiness Innovations, which showcased 50 stand-out products across the entire Australian food value chain.
Wildbrumby was chosen for its focus on product experience and the personalisation of its ever-growing range of contemporary Australian spirits.
Lake Light Sculpture Festival in Jindabyne
Lake Light Sculpture is an inspiring outdoor sculpture exhibition and competition which will be held along the stunning foreshore of Lake Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains of NSW from the 30th March to 2nd April 2018.
The Easter long weekend offers a fantastic opportunity to experience Jindabyne. The sculptures are displayed in an evocative setting with the reflections of the Snowy Mountains on the lake, providing a living studio for the artworks but it is as night falls that the real magic begins. Illumination has, since the festival’s inception, been a defining element of Lake Light Sculpture, and the sculptures are lit from sunset to 10pm each evening. Artists embed lighting, reflection and optical tricks into their sculptures to play on the light of Easter’s full moon. The effect is dramatic, transforming the already interesting sculptures and revealing hidden elements. It’s an ideal time to bundle up against the autumn chill and walk hand-in-hand with the ones you love along the foreshore.
Artists of every calibre – including professionals, experienced and emerging artists, community groups, and local tradesmen – participate in the event. Previous years’ prizes have included a sculpture residency at the Australian National University, the coveted People’s Choice Award, and the Illumination Award for the sculpture that best lights up the star-strewn night.

After its stunning success last Easter, the Lake Light Sculpture committee is Calling for Entries for the 2018 Event to be held next Easter on the foreshores of Lake Jindabyne from 30th March – 2ndApril 2018 with a record prize pool of $20,000 including the Major Prize of $10,000.
“Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, organisations and supporters of this event, we are again able to offer a prize pool of $20,000 including the Major Prize of $10,000” said Lake LightCommittee Chair, Lisa Matthes. “The illumination of the sculptures which may be viewed at night under the Easter Full moon makes Lake Light Sculpture a unique outdoor exhibition and to encourage artists to incorporate illumination into their artworks, we will again be offering an Illumination Award Category of $5,000 along with the People’s Choice Illumination Award Category”.
The Snowy Mountains’ area is a great holiday destination at Easter and the picturesque Snowy Mountains and Lake backdrop combined with glorious Autumn colours provide a wonderful setting for sculptures.
Longtime exhibitor to the event & multiple Major Award Winner, Eden’s Jesse Graham was thrilled to sell another of his sculptures, the 2018 Major Award winning piece Buoyansea to the Batemans Bay Chamber of Commerce where it is now proudly on display on Beach Road. This piece will join Song & Dance in his array of public arts acquisitions which was purchased by the Snowy Monaro Regional Council after the 2013 Lake Light Sculpture event.
With record sculpture sales last Easter, the event continues to grow and is now considered one of the feature events on the Snowy Mountains’ Summer calendar and the Regional Arts NSW calendar. Prize levels in all categories continue to be high with many diverse categories including a range of Environmental, Encouragement and Community Awards attracting entries from established professional and emerging artists, tradespeople, local school and community groups.

Taking Triathlon and Adventure to New Heights
On March 10 the Australian Alpine Ascent returns to the Snowy Mountains. 2018 marks the events third successive year, featuring an array of events for the active minded adventurer. This year AAA adds two brand new events, a 25k and 50k trail run to the pre-existing AAA triathlon and Tri Kozzi triathlon. The key feature of these two trail runs will see athletes tackle Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko.
The event is expected to see some of the World’s greatest endurance athletes descend on the New South Wales Snowy Mountains. Elite Energy CEO, Mark Emerton, believes this festival will set the benchmark for endurance events in the Southern Hemisphere and will test even the toughest of competitors and those willing to take the challenge ‘into thin air’. “The AAA triathlon is already up there with the likes of Norseman and has been designed to really test an individual. It’s not just about distance, it’s about altitude, it’s about unpredictable weather, it’s about hills – big hills, competitors will be running to the highest peak in Australia and it will be in vain if they don’t get there before dusk when the National Park come in and literally lock you out.
“Logistically, this will be the biggest event we’ve organised and we are working really closely with all local authorities to ensure this is a great success. Due to the nature of the course and safety requirements, entries will be capped and we are ecstatic to see such a healthy response to these events”.
For all the suffering athletes are sure to endure, the courses are nothing short of spectacular and will see athletes pass through some of the Snowy Mountains’ most picturesque locations including Dead Horse Gap, Charlotte Pass, Thredbo Village and one of the most famous landmarks in Australia, the peak of Mt Kosciuszko.
The AAA triathlon course will begin with a 3km swim in Lake Jindabyne, before transitioning out of the water and onto the bike to commence the 124km ride, the first 16km of which will be a hill climb, this ride has competitors climbing over 3200 vertical metres and will finish at Charlotte Pass Village to transition for the 25k return run along the trails to Mount Kosciuszko, before descending to the finish back at Charlottes Pass Village.
No matter whether the athletes have chosen the shorter triathlon, the AAA or one of the 2 trail runs, the courses will be a test of sheer strength, fitness and at times courage. If people would like to test themselves against any of the distance races they can still enter here.
