Jindabyne Lions Easter Art Show & Sale
Over Easter, Jindabyne oozes Culture.
It’s a relaxing time of year in Jindabyne, an interlude between Summer, (where activities of bushwalking, bike riding, sailing and swimming) and Winter (when seasonally famous Snow Sports are enjoyed). On top of the Lake Light Sculpture Festival, Jindabyne plays host to one of the biggest regional art events in NSW. The Jindabyne Lions Club Easter Art Show & Sale attracts 200-300 entries covering Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Craft and quite notably features some of the Snowy’s best Photography.
Jindabyne Lions Club invites entries for its Easter Art Show & Sale.
This annual event showcases our region’s wonderful artistic talents. The show is held in the Jindabyne Memorial Hall at the end of Town Centre opposite the Lake Jindabyne Hotel, and will run from Thursday March 29 to Saturday April 7, 2018.
Autumn is a seasonal bonus for artists, as like clockwork, the colours of red and gold are in full swing as Winter approaches. Days are sunny and nights cool, and the scenery can’t help but be inspirational to one and all, especially those with artistic talents.
With such a range of entries the opportunity exists to become an art collector of any level. Excellent artwork is displayed and is usually snapped up quickly, providing great encouragement for our local artists, not to mention an appreciating income. A maximum selling price of only $1,500 is set, and most are in the $300 to $500 price range. Some artists sell all of their work, so it really is a case of get in early or you might miss out. One happy buyer commented as he loaded his purchase into his car, “I can’t believe it, I bought this for $600 and it would have cost me $6,000 from a gallery in Sydney”.
Opening Night Gala Evening
Launch day is a busy day, the Mitre 10 Jindabyne Opening Night Gala starts at 7pm on Thursday 29 March. Opening Night is always a highly anticipated “frock-up” event with the announcement of prize winners and the chance for visitors and residents to catch up with friends over a drink or two. Supper is catered for by the ladies of Jindabyne CWA. At $15.00 entry, it’s excellent value for money.
Past exhibits have seen the likes of George Kraus’ exquisite botanical watercolours, to Peter Williams detailed large scale model of the English Electric Lightning interceptor aircraft that he worked on as a young man, to Brad Spalding’s larger than life ochre portrait of Donny Woolagooja, his indigenous elder mate from the Northern Territory.
“Again, we are very keen to see entries from ours school students”, a Lions Club spokesperson said. “Youth entries are very generously supported by Perisher, and thanks to the proceeds of last year’s Show, we have installed a gallery quality Artrack hanging system to display student’s artwork at Jindabyne Central School”. The system was handed over at the end of last term to Mr Steve Cooper the retiring acting Principal of JCS by Terry Chalk, Past President of Jindabyne Lions.
Entry forms are being sent out to artists who have taken part in past shows and are also available online at www.jindabynelions.org.au Entries may be submitted in person at Jindabyne Memorial Hall on Sunday 25th March 2018 from 10am to 4pm. Please note that no late entries will be accepted. For further entry information, please refer to the entry form.
Call for Volunteers
Although the Show is organised by Jindabyne Lions Club, you don’t have to be a member of Lions to take part. Anyone with an interest in Art is welcome to join us. We always look forward to having helpers when setting up the show, or volunteer show attendants who would like to be part of it all.
