Kosciuszko Walk Weekend
Day One
Starting from Australia’s highest village Charlotte Pass; we cross the Snowy River and walk on to experience the power and beauty of the ancient Blue Lake. Hewn out of granite by colliding rivers of ice, this is Kosciuszko National Park’s deepest glacial lake. The final 800m of trail ascends steadily on a paved trail, albeit the last few hundred metres to Charlotte Pass is sometimes known as heartbreak hill, but it’s worth it.
Day Two
Ride the chairlift from Thredbo Village (1365 metres) to Eagles Nest (1945metres), follow a grated path that crosses the headwaters of the Snowy River and enjoy the vista of Lake Cootapatamba, Australia's highest lake. The journey continues with the summiting of Mt Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak, which affords sweeping views over the Main Range and beyond to Victorian alpine terrain.
On return, descend to glacial Lake Cootapatamba via South Kosciuszko Ridge and climb to the high ground of the Ramshead where stacks of ancient granite boulders stand precariously perched.before a taking leisurely ride on the chairlift back to Thredbo Village .

A Mid Summers Day Trip
A Mid Summers Day Trip
Jindabyne, Kosciuszko National Park and Perisher Valley/Charlotte Pass
Cycle along the lake’s edge or hire a runabout or catamaran for time on the water. Take a scenic or fishing boat charter, or take to the air in a scenic flight. Visit the monument to Sir Paul Edmund Strzelecki and learn why he was significant to the region. Check out the Jindabyne Dam wall and take a mountain bike ride from there to Tyrollean Village. Go fishing in the lake or in one of the many surrounding streams, and catch Rainbow or Brown Trout and the occasional Brook or Atlantic Salmon. Fishing licences are required in NSW, and short stay licences are available from a number of outlets including many service stations.
Leave Jindabyne via the Kosciusko Road and venture into Kosciusko National Park. Passes are sold at the gate or at the Snowy Mountains Visitors Centre in Jindabyne. Stop at Waste Point lookout for great views of Lake Jindabyne. A little further on, the Kosciuszko Education Centre (open seasonally) gives some understanding of the features, flora and fauna of the mountains, including the illusive pygmy possum and corroboree frog. There are lovely mountain forest walks commencing from here.
Enter the Alpine Region, where the trees thin and become restricted to the warmer locations along ridge lines towards Perisher Valley. This ski village is a quiet haven for walkers in Summer. A half-day walk to the Porcupine Rocks is a must.
Drive on to Charlotte Pass, Australia’s highest ski village (along the way stop at Alpine Eyre Kiosk for a snack or lunch). Witness magnificent views of Australia’s Alpine Zone. On the horizon, across the “Main Range”, is Mount Kosciusko. A return walk to the top of Kosciusko is a full day’s trek. Just below this, witness the first flows of the iconic Snowy River.

A Skier's Weekender
Day One:
Rise bright and early ready to hit the slopes! But first, fuel up for a big day with breakfast from Birchwood Jindabyne. The menu changes regularly, but if it’s available, try the amazing pancakes. Next, collect your gear from one of the many rental providers in town (don’t forget the chains!) and head off to your mountain of choice.
First timers should head off to a lesson first thing to get some groundwork skills. Kids might want to try out ski school, it doesn’t take them long to be overtaking the adults in skill and confidence!
Break for lunch and maybe a hot chocolate (or Beer!) Kids in ski school get their own lunch catered for. The afternoon can then be spent trying out your new found skills, or observing the mountain from the comfortable warmth of a lounge, café or bar.
Day Two
If the previous days lessons have not worn you out, then rinse and repeat!
Otherwise, treat yourself to a sleep in and later breakfast at Parc. Try the Chai, it is brilliant!
Then head to your preferred mountain and maybe have some snow play time. Build a snowman and show off your tobogganing skills. For a late lunch, try out Wild Brumby Distillery.
There is plenty of room to run around for the kids and free schnapps taste testing for the adults!
