Lake Jindabyne Reflections Project

Lake Jindabyne Reflections ~ Sharing the Stories That Shaped the Snowy Mountains

The Jindabyne Chamber of Commerce is inviting partnerships with cultural custodians, heritage networks, and local community groups as it launches a powerful new storytelling initiative:

Lake Jindabyne Reflections – Stories of Snowy & the Mountains.

The aim is to create an immersive cultural experience where a simple walk around the lake becomes a meaningful journey through time. Stories will be recorded and shared via digital media, linked to signage along a to-be-upgraded Shared User Path, which stretches from Banjo Paterson Park to the future Mountain Bike Park connection. As part of the larger foreshore revitalisation, this path has been designed to offer inclusive access, rest stops, interpretive signage, and opportunities for storytelling through audio, text, and art.

📜 Who We’re Looking For

In this first phase, we’re seeking interviewees with lived experience or deep knowledge of one or more of the following themes:

  • Heritage & Pioneers – Farming families, early settlers, heritage advocates

  • Snow & Winter Sports – Olympians, instructors, and resort pioneers

  • Snowy Hydro & Engineering History – Hydro workers, engineers, and historians

  • Indigenous Narratives – Ngarigo Elders, cultural leaders, language custodians

  • Veterans & Service History – Returned service members with local ties

  • Community & Growth – Locals from the Old Town, service clubs, and business innovators

These themes directly reflect the cultural touchpoints identified in the Foreshore Masterplan – ensuring our shared history is woven into the landscape for both locals and visitors to experience.

🤝 Let’s Build It Together

This project is a collective effort. We’re inviting cultural and community groups to:

  • Nominate storytellers

  • Collaborate on cultural guidance

  • Share archival materials or historical content

  • Assist in community engagement and review

Your knowledge, support, and lived connection to this place are vital to its success.

📽️ What’s Involved

  • Interviews: Short, recorded conversations (audio or video) to be conducted by our chosen professional curator/documentary producer.

  • Lasting Legacy: Content made publicly accessible via QR codes and a digital archive

  • Ongoing Growth: This is just Phase One – more stories will be collected over time

🌿 Part of a Bigger Picture

The Lake Jindabyne Reflections Project complements the broader Foreshore Design, which aims to:

  • Celebrate cultural heritage and storytelling

  • Welcome people of all ages and abilities

  • Enhance local biodiversity and environmental resilience

  • Create new public gathering spaces with cultural depth

We want to hear from you. Our goal is to gather the stories we want to tell, and who we will ask to tell them.

If you know someone who should be included – or if your organisation wants to collaborate – we’d love to connect.
