Discover the Epic Snowies Alpine Walk: A Journey to the Roof of Australia

🌏 Feel on top of the world this summer!

This summer, immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the Snowies Alpine Walk, a 56km trail traversing the stunning landscapes of Monero Ngarigo Country in Kosciuszko National Park. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or looking for your next great adventure, this newly completed multi-day trek offers an unforgettable journey through one of Australia’s most iconic alpine regions.

A Collaborative Milestone

Thanks to an incredible partnership between Tourism Snowy Mountains, Arc’teryx, and Capital Brewing Co., the Snowies Alpine Walk has been completed in its entirety for the first time. In early November, trailblazers Hugh Newall, Ji Sheng, Michaela Franz, and Jonny Day conquered the full 56km trail in just two days, showcasing the walk’s potential as an exhilarating outdoor experience.

The Route: 4 Days, 4 Iconic Destinations

The Snowies Alpine Walk connects the picturesque alpine locations of Guthega, Charlotte Pass, Perisher, and Bullocks Flat, offering a unique opportunity to explore the heart of Australia’s alpine region. Whether you choose a self-guided hike for a personalised experience or a guided trek for expert insights, this trail is sure to captivate and challenge you.

Here’s what to expect along the way:
✨ Follow the Snowy River, where crystal-clear waters wind through glacier-carved valleys.
⛰️ Ascend to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak, for panoramic views of uninterrupted horizons.
🌲 Traverse vibrant subalpine meadows, majestic forests, and stand among iconic gnarled snow gums.

Rest and Recharge

After a day of exploration, unwind in one of the region’s charming lodges or cottages, nestled in Kosciuszko National Park or nearby alpine villages. These cosy accommodations provide the perfect base to rest and refuel, ensuring you’re ready for each day’s adventure.

Shorter Walks for Every Adventurer

Not ready for the full 56km trek? You can still enjoy the beauty of the Snowies Alpine Walk with shorter sections that suit your schedule and fitness level:

  • Guthega to Charlotte Pass: Cross the stunning suspension bridge at Spencers Creek.
  • Main Range Loop: Summit Mount Kosciuszko and soak in the incredible high-country views.
  • Charlotte Pass to Perisher or Perisher to Bullocks Flat: Discover sensational subalpine vistas.

A Journey Through Nature and Culture

The Snowies Alpine Walk isn’t just about the physical challenge—it’s also an opportunity to connect with nature and history. Walk through Monero Ngarigo Country, learning about the rich cultural heritage of the Traditional Owners, and discover the unique flora and fauna of this alpine region. From alpine wildflowers to playful wombats, the trail is alive with beauty and wonder.
